Updated: Mar 30, 2023

The estate planning space is full of innovation and growth. Learn what we’ve been up to at EstateBox this year.

2021 was a big year for EstateBox! As the year comes to a close, we’re taking a step back to celebrate just how far we’ve come and what we’re looking forward to in the year ahead.

Wondering what we’ve been up to all year? Read on!

We launched the EstateBox platform!

After two years of rigorous research, design, and testing by a dedicated group of beta testers, we were excited to announce that EstateBox officially launched to the public. We were blown away by all the love and support we received with the launch.

Here’s what people are saying:

"What an excellent platform! Advisors in Canada such as myself have offered valuable estate planning services to clients for many years, and it’s about time technology caught up. EstateBox is a welcome addition to the estate planning infrastructure." -Tod Alstad, CHS

"What an incredible story. This challenge is something that I think about too. EstateBox really resonates with me and likely many others. Bravo!" -Erica Shield

"Love this business idea—so meaningful. Congratulations on the launch of EstateBox!" -Tanja Halsall, MA, CPHR, SHRM-SCP

We launched our blog

Our mission is to remove the barriers and shift perceptions around estate planning by making it simple, inclusive, and accessible to all. In the EstateBox blog, we strive to demystify estate planning by writing about everything from selecting an executor to how advisors can support their 2SLGBTQ+ clients.

Here’s a few of our favourites, in case you missed them the first time around.

Ever wonder why EstateBox was created? In this post, our founder and CEO, Anjali Coyle, shared the inspiring story about what led her to start EstateBox.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by estate planning? It doesn't have to be scary. Learn about the four key documents you need to get started.

Four separate images. The first is of EstateBox found and SEO Anjali Inman. The next is an advisor meeting with two clients. The third is a person sitting at a laptop computer and holding some papers. The last is a friendly looking advisor sitting at their desk.

What do baby boomer women, millennials, and the Great Wealth Transfer have in common? More than you might think. Advisors, this one's for you. (Though we still think everyone can learn something from this post!)

As a trusted advisor, part of your role is to create a safe environment where clients feel comfortable sharing their hopes, fears, and plans for the future. In this post we went over how you can show your 2sLGBTQ+ clients and colleagues that you’re in their corner.

We had a DEI audit completed

While we’re proud of our policies and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, we believe that there’s always room for improvement. The opportunity to complete a DEI audit with Veza Global provided us with excellent external feedback.

After a thorough review of our company materials, we strengthened our existing policies and employee documents and introduced new ones. We’re proud to report we’ve been placed at stage 4 in their “5 Stages to an Inclusive Culture.”

We’re also committed to applying DEI principles to the EstateBox platform. That’s why we provide a diverse range of genders for our customers to select from when setting up their account, use inclusive language, and select visuals that everyone can see themselves reflected in.

We were a finalist for the Women in Fintech Grant

Earlier this year, PR Communications firm Talk Shop launched a $30,000 Women in Fintech Grant. The grant provided public relations and communications services to an early-stage fintech startup with a founder who identifies as a woman. We’re proud to have been in the great company of women-founded startups Paper & Coin, BuyProperly, Quber, and the51.

We took the Pledge 1%

Here at EstateBox, we’re committed to being a force for good in our community. We believe in fostering an environment where employees are provided with opportunities to give back to the communities that we live, work, and play in.

To accomplish this, we joined the over 10,000 members in 100 countries around the world that have taken the 1% Pledge. Companies who take the pledge can donate any combination of product, equity, profit, or time to whatever charity of their choice. This year EstateBox staff donated their time with the Central Okanagan Food Bank and Canadian Blood Services.

We’re busy developing new estate planning streams and features

We’re always looking for ways to improve the platform. Our team is currently hard at work developing new sections (or “streams”) and features to help you get the most out of your EstateBox.

A sleeping puppy in someone's arms

Here’s just a few you can expect to see on the EstateBox platform in the new year:

  • Pets will capture information like your pets’ medical conditions and ongoing care providers.

  • Aging will capture what you want out of the aging process such as your living situation and lifestyle.

  • Final Wishes will guide you through the funeral planning process.

  • Children and Dependents will capture information like health records, disabilities, and routines for any children and dependents you may have.

  • Digital Assets will capture your online assets for each stream.

  • Renewal Reminders will let you know when your important documents like passport or driver’s license are about to expire.

Thank you for following along this year and supporting us on our journey! Our goal is to build the best life and legacy planning platform on the market, built on the principles of privacy, security and innovation— and we can’t do that without you.
